Ultrafast Laser Additive Manufacturing: A Review

Ultrafast lasers are proven and continually evolving manufacturing tools. Concurrently, additive (AM) has emerged as a key area of interest for 3D fabrication objects with arbitrary geometries. Use ultrafast AM presents possibilities next generation techniques hard-to-process materials, transparent micro- nano-manufacturing. Of particular selective laser melting/sintering (SLM/SLS), multiphoton lithography (MPL), laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT), pulsed deposition (PLD), welding. The development, applications, recent advancements these technologies described in this review an overview delineation the burgeoning field. As they mature, their adoption by industry incorporation into commercial systems will be facilitated process such as: monitoring control, increased throughput, integration hybrid systems. Recent progress regarding aspects is also reviewed.
